The
gods Sellers
You
see them on buildings shouting promises of heaven. You see them on the freeway,
proclaiming salvation. You see them on TV teaching the true nature of
happiness. Buy this, attain that, use this, and drink that. Its everywhere you
look permeating our society. ThereÕs no escaping it, its here and its not going
anywhere. If you drink this beer you can screw these kinds of women. If you use
this shampoo youÕll be as beautiful and as loved as the woman talking about it.
If you drive this car people will look at you with envy the way they should. Go
to a night club and youÕll see everyone trying to live up to the add, look at
the people driving those cars and you'll see them trying to soak up the envy.
Look at the people, the beautiful people trying to look like a magazine add and
live that life. EverybodyÕs trying, where all faithful worshipers.
IÕm
not the first to espouse this line and I'm sure that the above sounds pretty
much like what you'll hear from your average tattooed, body-pierced,
multicolored, tree-hugging activist. But even they worship their gods; even
they try to look like the holly tree hugger in the sky. Even they try to
worship their gods. Only theirs are righteous, and everybody knows that the
righteous is also the most dangerous.
